HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE!

First off, it's over commercialized. Now, I guess most holidays are over commercialized nowadays, but my main point is that you HAVE to take part in it. You HAVE to have a Valentine, you HAVE to buy her flowers and chocolates (btw, who else thinks that's a sucky present? Flowers? not really, but chocolates? I fail to see the fact that you give her chocolate as a sign that you love her), you HAVE to dress in red, pink, etc. Oh, and if you don't do all this it probably means you don't like the other sex. Because, not having a girlfriend makes you homosexual. Right?

Argh. I'm starting to hate this holiday more and more every year. It's meaningless. It doesn't show that you love someone because you're being felt as if you HAVE to. But seriously? Chocolates? If you really love that someone, do something special. Such as: take her somewhere special for a date that you will never go to unless it's really special, or showing up at her house unexpected and just BEING with her, instead of this "HAI HEREZ A CARD THT SEZ THAT I <3 U!!!! LULZ KTHXBAI" crap. Why can't we just act like this all year round? Why do we need Valentines Day to do it for us? Yaoi.

It bothers me that there's a holiday for doing something that you should do every day, but let's face the truth: it's a Hallmark holiday. I bet no one even knows who St. Valentine is or what he did.

I dunno though, I consider it a joke once you get past the age of actually giving out Valentines, and I don't ask anyone to be my "valentine" on the day so it might as well be Martin Luther King Jr. Day (No offense to MLK, but his holiday is not widely celebrated.)

I like the VG Cats cards...

I use the day as a day to be extra romantic towards a significant other. Most days I'm just silly and romantic, but V-Day is the super-special-awesome romance day.

Otherwise, I hate it. I'm not buying anything for Amy or anything, and she's not buying anything for me. We just like being with each other.

However, Phi Mu Alpha is doing singing telegrams for people. I'm involved in one of them - it'll be fun.

@ SW- As a Catholic and a person who uses well-researched documents like wikipedia, I have to say that I know what St. Valentine did. Learned in my elementary days. :D

Seriously Blurr, your post just sounds like you're butt hurt angsty about Valentine's Day. Agreeable that yes, it is commercialized, but I don't see why you have to let that affect you. You must be in high school or around people that rub it in- hate to break it to you kid, but adults [18+ woo] don't share that same sort of feeling (I may be mistaken- if it's different here in Hawaii than on the Continental US, I'm begging you to let me know).

And I shall have you know that some girls are just fine with flowers and chocolates- the thought counts, you know. My Valentine [oh what an angel she is] asked for those very things. She probably isn't the only one.

You "HAVE TO" wear said reddish hues? Seriously, is it some sort of law? If you don't want to, then don't. Go against the reed, wear black for all I care, and try to stop crying- your concluding sentence in that first paragraph sort of proves your misjudgement about this all, and also makes a note on your character if you give in to such peer pressure fables [SO DON'T, MAN, YOU'RE STRONGER THAN THAT].

Ps- not everyone's doing chocolates. Also, quite frankly, if you do something special for her/him today JUST BECAUSE IT'S VALENTINES DAY AND THERE IS NO OTHER SPECIAL DAY IN THE WORLD then really, learn to be a partner. I don't know how it is for you, but some of us have schedules to keep up- the card sometimes is all we can do.

tl;dr- You don't need Valentine's to be romantic/lovely/DRESSEDinPINKomg, but let's face it- knowing that we can pull off the stunts most people pull once on Valentine's during their whole relationship life any other day of the year is enough to sate any RAAAAGE that may come from this holiday. Yes, it's commercialized, but you don't have to buy into it- BE STRONG! LET OTHERS DO SO AND GET DOWN WITH YOUR BAD SELF! :D

If you want to rant like this, why not get a blog? This stuff is just going to incite responses you probably don't want to hear elsewhere.

Hating Valentine's Day? I feel relieved when I see my friends fretting over what to do for their girlfriends.

I like the story of how Valentine's Day came to be, but I understand how it's over-commercialised.

To those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, this is the story.

There was a man whose name was Valentine, he was sentenced to death, and fell in love with his executioner's daughter. The night before he was executed, he sent a love letter.

It was signed, 'From your Valentine'
