You'd probably like this one, if you like fun and weird.

And yeah, that's the first thing I thought of as well when I heard of this.

I thought I'd write up a Double Fanucci Guide for all of us to refer back to if necessary.

Each card number gives you a certain amount of points:
0=2
1=4
2=8
3=16
4=20
5=24
6=30
7=36
8=40
9=44
Infinity=50
Face Card=25

Each suit responds differently to other suits. When combining suits, some will not change value, some will become half their original value, some will become 0, and some will actually become negative, resulting in a lower value. For example:
- 2's are worth 8
- Putting a 2 of Tops in a slot will give 8 points
- Placing a 2 of Rain next to it will give 16 points (no value change)
- Placing a 2 of Lamps next to it will give 12 points (half value)
- Placing a 2 of Inkblots next to it will result in 8 points (0 value)
- Placing a 2 of Bugs next to it will result in 4 points (half value, negative)

Note also that you can only lay two of the same suit for points. If you have all of the Tops up to 3, placing all of them in one category will only result in 24 points, because only the 3 and the 2 will count. The 1 and the 0 are worth nothing, but can be placed in another category for 6 points altogether.

So here are the suit combinations that will give the best results. Most of these aren't really useful until you have a lot of cards, but it's have so that you can get the most points quickly (especially for your gambit, since every point there gives 5 points to both your AR and your DR).

- Tops, Rain, Faces
- Zurfs (buildings), Books, Plungers
- Scythes, Mazes, Ears
- Inkblots, Hives
- Time, Bugs
- Lamps, Fromps (horns)

You can also put Inkblots/Hives with Time/Bugs, though one of the combos will be half value. You would be better off sticking with one combo and just putting two of each suit there.

Face Cards do not affect other card suits, and are not affected by other card suits. They will always be worth 25, and whatever else you put with them will remain their original value (if placed with the proper suits). You might think that they won't help you at all, since they are pretty rare and can't be obtained until you're at least Lv42, but there are other reasons to have them (shown below).

The maximum points for any category is 100. You can easily get this when you have a 6 of one suit and 5 of the other two in a Three Suit Combo (6, 5; 5; 5), or 6 of both suits in a Two Suit Combo (6, 5; 6, 5).

My advice: Put your highest Three Suit Combo into Gambit, and put the other 2 Three Suit Combos into whatever two categories you have invested the most in (one is probably Body). Put Inkblots/Hives and/or Time/Bugs into the last category. Keep Lamps/Fromps for when you reach Lv30, as you can give Fanucci Cards to your Sidekick for better bonuses.

Now for Face Cards. Each one has an added benefit besides a solid 25 points and no negative impact to/from other suits, and there's a set location for each one. I didn't do the research for this - I found it on the Zork Forums. The higher your level, the better chance of finding them, I guess. Some of them you can't get until you're at least Lv52, and it can be a while before you find them, so be patient.
  • Granola: 2 HP (Antharia - Granola Mines)
  • Beauty: Discount at Stores (Fenshire - White House)
  • Lobster: Carrying Capacity increase (Discipline Beach - Grubbo-By-The-Sea)
  • Death: +2% to Final Win Percentage (Ruins of Pheebor - Greater Borphee)
  • Light: Possible increase of finding sub-locations (Gray Mountains - Frostham)
  • Time: Possible increase of finding sub-locations (Forest of Youth - Greater Borphee)
  • Snail: No clue (Any location of Mizniaport)
  • Jester: No clue BROKEN - WILL NOT DROP
  • Grue: No clue BROKEN - WILL NOT DROP

It doesn't matter what category you put the Face Cards in - they'll always give the same benefit.

I hope this helps anybody else playing Zork.

Well, today was the first day where I didn't make much of any sort of progress. Really need to start boosting my probabilities as I am starting to get beat quite a bit now.

That happened to Wesker and I as well. After I figured out Fanucci, I started beating up monsters 3 levels higher (the new equipment from quests helped as well). It's getting to be that 2 levels higher is safer for me, so I'll need better equipment.

There are two things you can do at this stage:
1. Keep going how you've been going. Honestly, the best thing you can buy with coconuts (aka real money) is the Aimfiz Amulet, so that you can go back to your base without any AP lost. This will not only guarantee 30 encounters, but also allows you to go back to your base every time you get hurt without any repercussions. Of course, this is only if you're willing to shell out however much it takes to get it ($5, and you'll have 4 coconuts leftover for a potion or something).

2. Battle enemies that are lower level than you. You won't get as much experience, but the card yield is the same no matter what level you're fighting, so you'll have a better chance at getting enough cards to really boost your Fanucci Gambit.

I could also buy you a new weapon or armor, but that's up to you to decide if you want to keep trying sans help.

Weapon with 96 AR, or Armor with 75 DR?

I think I will go with armor...

It just seems like I hit a wall all of a sudden and everything just jumped up out of nowhere once I hit 10.

Crazy, isn't it? I donated the armor to the clan, so request it and let me know. That should help a bit.

How's the Lv10 Quest going?

I now have 2 face cards (they're both worth 25, so I think they all might be), and all of my suits are up to 9 or Infinity besides Ears, which is still at 6.

Also saving up for the best Armor in the game, which'll bump my DR up to 1150. Only need 710260 zm to get it. Hopefully I'll get it by the time I get to the next level (and base). My sidekick and the Thief skills are helping my Zorkmid yield a lot.

Yay Easter Armor! Now my DR is over 1000!

I only have one more Infinity Card to get until I have all of the non-face cards. That's kinda cool, too.

I hit Lv50 on Tuesday. You gain access to a hidden part of the forum that was probably actually lively back when the first few people got to Lv50, but nothing's been done on there since January.

Anyway, I'm on Part 26 of the Lv50 Quest, and none of the locations are even close to my level, so I haven't gotten any experience since Tuesday. Since I need 1.2 Million XP to level up, this isn't exactly great, but hopefully I'm nearing the end. You'd think so, anyway.

On the plus side, after you get to Lv51, the XP requirements for leveling up go back down. Not sure why getting to Lv51 takes so long... Oh well. Just thought I'd let you guys know so you don't freak out or anything when you hit Lv50 and see the "XP to next level" number.

I also finally found the Potion that allows you to nickname your sidekick, which is awesome. It costs 1 Coconut, which is even better.

It really does. You get more money for treasure (usually), and you can easily get 1000+ exp. per enemy. I'm currently capable of exploring at 4-5 levels above my own (4's better).
